The Association - Never My Love
Whenever it gets windy in LA, I’m tempted to upload The Association’s “Windy”. I’ve done this about three times already, so this time I’ll post my favorite song by the same group instead. I’m sure this explanation matters a lot to everyone.
- Me: Check it out, 311 and The Offspring are going on tour together.
- Brother: Ooh! When? 1995?
I went out to dinner with my family tonight, and halfway through our meal I noticed two large men walk into the restaurant. After a double and triple take, I realized that they were WWF wrestlers. The rest of dinner, I felt equal parts weirded out and embarrassed that I knew who they were.
But, the situation did lend itself to some classic observations by my brother. My personal favorite:
Do you think it’d be weird if I talked to them? But then, what would I say? “Hi. Excuse me. Hello. When I was in middle school, I used to watch you two wrestle each other in your underwear!”
Yeah…I don’t think that would go over too well. Maybe I could just tell them it’s weird for me to see them in normal clothes? But then that would lead me into asking them to take off their clothes and throw chairs at each others faces.
What if I just asked to take a picture with them, and I took MY pants off? Hmmm..that might make them angry. And then they’d pretend to beat me up…
That would be sad. Nevermind. Let’s just go home.
Bob Dylan - Positively 4th Street
Marlena Shaw - California Soul
Joyce & Donato - Amor Nas Estrelas
A little bossa nova groovin for a Friday night.
The Temper Trap - Sweet Disposition
I don’t mean to turn my page into the trailer of every quirky indie romantic comedy ever, but this song has been on repeat in my head lately.
Yeasayer - 2080
This past weekend, my brother and I drove roughly 850 miles round trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco with one goal in mind: to see Yeasayer live at the Fillmore. Seeing this song performed live* was so satisfying and fun that it made the entire trip worth it by itself. The rest of the show and a whirlwind adventure through a fantastic city was simply a bonus. I’ll definitely be seeing them again as soon as they’re close by, and I’ll definitely be making my way back up to the bay area again as soon as I can find the time.
*Trust me, this song is incredible to see and hear in person. The recording is great, but doesn’t do it justice.
Scott McKenzie - San Francisco
I’m about to drive to San Francisco. However, I will not be wearing flowers in my hair.
